Dear Parents, I give you back your child, the same child you confidently entrusted to my care last fall. I give her/him back pounds heavier, inches taller, months wiser, more responsible, and more mature than s/he was then. Although s/he would have attained her/his growth in spite of me, it has been my pleasure and privilege to watch her/his personality unfold day by day. I give her/him back reluctantly, for having spent nine months together in the narrow confines of a crowded classroom, we have grown close, have become a part of each other, and we shall always retain a little of each other. We have lived, loved, laughed, played, studied, learned, and enriched our lives together this year. I wish it could go on indefinitely, but give her/him back I must. Take care of her/ him, for s/he is precious. Remember that I shall always be interested in your child, and her/his destiny, wherever s/he goes, whatever s/he does, whoever s/he becomes. Fondly, Maria Petrozzi Beach Party Day: Tuesday is Beach Party day! Kids are invited to wear their swimsuits (under school appropriate clothing), sunglasses, hats, and sandals. The kids will participate in beach-themed stations, but will not get wet. We will also celebrate ALL summer birthdays on Monday. Students with summer birthdays will receive a birthday crown, birthday pencil, and a lovely serenade. Please do not send treats to school! Transition Up Day: Wednesday is Transition Up Day. The kindergartners will visit first grade to get a sneak peak at the next school year. First grade teachers will read to our kinders, play a game with them, give them a tour of the room, and answer general questions. Our visits are randomly assigned and are not an indicator of who your child's teacher will be next year! Super Games Day: Thursday is Super Games day! Students will spend the day climbing, bouncing, sliding, riding, and playing courtesy of our awesome Fouse PTO! Parents do not need to attend unless you sign-up as a volunteer thru PTO. Please apply sunscreen before school that day, and send a labeled water bottle. Children must have tennis shoes/socks to participate in Super Games! Last Day of Kindergarten: Friday is the last day of school--NO BACKPACKS (district policy)! We will spend one last day together...singing our favorite songs, signing autographs, eating popsicles, and playing on the playground. Good-bye, my good friends! The children look forward to the one-on-one time they spend with you, and have made huge gains under your guidance. Thank you for helping our "kinder-garden" grow! I would like to extend an extra special "thank you" to Molly Conway and Geneva Tran, our devoted Baggie Book volunteers. Without their help, our students would not have had new books to take home each week. Another extra special thank you goes out to our lead room moms, Stephanie Fredericks and BethanyTaylor. Without their help, our students would not have had the awesome classroom parties throughout the year. THANK YOU!! Teacher Appreciation: An additional thank you for the many thoughtful notes, flowers, sweet treats, school supplies, and so much more. I have been spoiled this week and I truly appreciate all of your kind gestures. xoxo Summer Math Packet: In addition to our summer activity calendar, we also have a "Getting Ready for 1st Grade" math packet for our kinders. Dear Kindergarten Families,
As some of you already know, Audrey Tanzillo [former Fouse Fox], was recently diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor. Audrey underwent a 12-hour surgery to remove the tumor, and will soon begin chemotherapy and radiation treatments. The Tanzillo family is truly the most giving and kind family I have ever known. I've been blessed to teach several of their children over the years, and currently have Audrey's brother (Leo) and niece (Laura). The reason I'm sharing this with you is because the Tanzillo's need our help. As the end of the year rolls around, I'm often showered with gifts from multiple students and their families. While I appreciate the thoughtful gesture, I am requesting that all gifts be directed to the Tanzillo family. I would love nothing more than for you to make a donation, small or large, to the Audrey Tanzillo Fundraiser. The money raised will help with her medical expenses. Together, we can help Audrey BEAT cancer! To make a donation, please click on the button below and you will be taken to the fundraising page. Thank you in advance for helping this very special young lady and her amazing family! Best regards, Maria Petrozzi Next Week: Our topic for next week is frogs and our shared reading is The Firefly Song. We will learn about the life-cycle of frogs through non-fiction literature, and through a variety of photographs and models. As part of our math lessons, we will continue working on number bonds. A number bond is a mental picture of the relationship between a number and the parts that combine to make it. The concept of number bonds is very basic, an important foundation for understanding how numbers work. A whole thing is made up of parts. If you know the parts, you can put them together (add) to find the whole. If you know the whole and one of the parts, you take away the part you know (subtract) to find the other part. As part of our language arts lessons, we will continue to work on writing conventions in our journals (using a capital letter at the beginning of the sentence, lower case letters in words, and punctuation at the end of the sentence). Please reinforce these writing "rules" when working with your child at home. Thanks!

Please be aware that all borrowed LIBRARY books must be returned by May 9th. All BAGGIE BOOKS are due by Thursday, May 15th. If you have a lost library book or baggie book, please contact me for payment information. THANKS!! Homework: Please work with your child to complete the INSECT FACT assignment sent home today. You child is to write one interesting FACT about an insect of his/her choice. Your child may find the fact in a book, magazine, website, etc. Please help your child write one sentence about an insect and include a picture below the sentence. Ex: There are over 5,000 different kinds of ladybugs in the world! The picture may be hand-drawn or a photograph. When your child returns his/her assignment, s/he will share the interesting fact with the class. As part of our math lessons, we will review missing addends through 5 and 10. Ex: 4 +___= 5 and 6 +___= 10). Please continue to practice this *difficult* skill with your child at home! Kindergarten students must be able to solve missing addends through 10 by the end of the school year. As part of our language arts lessons, we will continue to work on writing conventions in our journals (using a capital letter at the beginning of the sentence, lower case letters in words, and punctuation at the end of the sentence).
