Nursery Rhymes in Kindergarten: Parents often wonder why we spend time reading and reciting nursery rhymes in kindergarten. The answer is simple: Nursery rhymes reinforce key reading skills such as phonemic awareness. Research has shown that there is a strong link between the nursery rhyme knowledge of young children and their future success in reading and spelling. Additionally, nursery rhymes provide opportunities to practice rhyming, blending and splitting syllables, and segmenting phonemes.
