4th Quarter Assessments: Beginning next week, we will work on our last round of achievement record testing. As always, this includes all of the math, reading, writing, science, and social studies that are listed on achievement record. I will be doing one-on-one reading assessments with the kindergartners on May 11th and MAY 13th. This assessment will determine your child's final kindergarten reading level (Benchmark is the Founas & Pinnell Level C). The following list includes items that many of our students need to practice at home. By practicing these at home, you are helping you child meet his/her final kindergarten goals. Please use your child’s last grade card to help you decide what is most important to practice.
* Using reading strategies (ex: using pictures clues and letter sounds to figure out unknown words)
* Reading high frequency words (district list 1)
* Blending letter sounds to make words (b-a-t says bat)
* Hearing and identifying beginning, medial, and ending sounds in words
* Printing upper and lower case letters "the kindergarten way"
* Counting to 100 (by 1's and 10's and from numbers other than 1)
* Counting and recording numerals to 20
* Identifying similarities and differences between 2-D and 3-D shapes
* Using strategies to solve addition and subtraction word problems with numbers up to 10
* Fluently add and subtract within 5

Thank You: A special thanks to Linda Pettit from the Franklin Soil and Water Conservation District for visiting our Fouse kinders last week and sharing The Lorax by Dr. Seuss. Our kinders had a wonderful time and learned quite a bit about conserving our resources.
